What We Farm

Our member farms feed the Cowichan and Vancouver Island community with vegetables, fruit, honey, nuts, meat, eggs, hay, Christmas trees, wine and tea. They also provide services, from haying to strategic planning.

Beverly is a land use planner, passionate about supporting communities in their pursuit of sustainable community development. Her planning interests lie at the intersection of environmental issues and human behaviour. She is a skilled planner, facilitator, researcher, and policy analyst. As a resident of the Cowichan Valley, she pursues her career in a variety of professional capacities. Currently she is working with the City of Port Alberni on their Zoning Bylaw Review Project. Recently she was project leader in developing Cobble Hill’s Age Friendly Community Assessment, as well as developing a policy study on Alternative Forms of Rural Development for the Regional District of Nanaimo.
Bev has guided and facilitated many different sectoral planning processes in her career. These include development of the community-based Cowichan Valley Food Security Action Plan, which has a major focus on farmers and agricultural lands in the Cowichan Valley. As well she designed and facilitated a public participation process in a tourism planning project undertaken for the District of Fort St. James.
Bev has extensive First Nations planning experience as well. A recent project for the Teslin Tlingit Council is the development of a community economic development strategy called Reviving Our Economy (2012), as well as working with colleagues in the development of a Teslin Tourism Strategy (2013). As Natural Resources Planner with the Hopi Indian Tribe from 1995 to 2000, she worked closely with residents and tribal government staff to develop a reservation-wide Integrated Resources Management Plan. She also managed the Hopi Drought Contingency Plan process and a variety of other environmental restoration projects.
